Proclamation of Philippine Independence
After the killing of Andres Bonifacio, the Father of the Revolution,
Aguinaldo proclaimed Philippne Independence in Kawit, Cavite
At the Malolos Congress, a Constitution was signed for the new Philippine
Government
The fight with Spain continued uintil the signing of the Pack of Biak-na-Bato
For P400,000, Aguinaldo was exiled to Hongkong with other members of
the Republic
An additional P400,000 was promised and P200,000 was left with the rebolutionarios

Spanish American war begun and invaded the Philippines under Commodore
Dewey.
Aguinaldo was asked to return to help fight Spain and was promised Independence.
The Filipinos rallied to General Aguinaldo’s call and joined the
fight against Spain.
When the Americans renege on their promise of Independence, the Filipinos
fought them.

Spain surrenders the Philippines under the Treaty of Paris ceding the
Island
Thus begun the Philippine-American War for Independence and continued
the fight.
Because of superior arms and firepower defeat is inevitable soon

The Americans believed that the Filipinos are not ready for Independence.
There will be anarchy and chaos if left alone by themselves to govern.
Already at this stage, corruption is perceived with the Illustrado’s
in power.
They have to educate the Filipino People and prepare them to govern.
They then colonized the Philippines and prepare them for self-government.
